Our Story
Katherine launched as a solo officiant in 2019, inspired by the power of words to foster deep human connection. At the time she was working as a producer for The Monti, a storytelling organization in Durham, NC, where she was continually reminded that all it takes is a microphone, a platform, and the sincere, artful use of storytelling principles to create profound memories.
On that stage, she watched hundreds of people move sold-out crowds to tears, laughter and joy. She witnessed people meet themselves and each other with greater compassion and understanding. She was honored to participate by telling her own stories, MCing shows and assisting in coaching and workshops. At a time when people seemed thirsty for meaning, she found it there, and wondered why the same principles weren’t being applied to weddings.
Over the years, she’s crafted and performed hundreds of unforgettable ceremonies across several states from Hawaii to Florida to the Northeast, and has since expanded her multi-state team, carefully recruiting others with similar values and stage presence. We welcomed Jacob (who Katherine met officiating his wedding to his wife, Brianna) and Alexis (who is now ALSO a Monti producer) to the team in 2024. Each with their own style, gifts and talents, have been beloved by the lucky couples they’ve worked with. Scroll down to meet the team!

Meet Katherine
Our fabulous founder and resident Capricorn. Katherine is an INFJ, late-blooming lesbian, neurospicy sweetheart, non-habitual yogi, admissably talented violinist, pet mom, pizza lover and spiritual seeker.
“I am an observer of people. I often spend my daydreaming hours thinking about what we’re doing here and how we find meaning. Maybe that’s why I’m so good at my job. Equal parts people person and hermit, I love my weighted blanket as much as I love bad karaoke. I am the kind of friend who at one moment is offering you a cup of tea and reminding you to look after your heart, and belly laughing with you over a beer, the next. I am a sucker for travel, the outdoors, a good day planner and meaningful conversations with kindred spirits.
A big fan of both the profound and the profane, I found my calling creating and officiating ceremonies that resonate with individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs. Working with couples to identify the mood they want to create and experience on their special day and then actualizing that vision is what I do. Think of me as equal parts professional, advisor, friend and soul sister, someone who can provide you with a sense of confidence, ease and presence during the special moments in your life.”

Meet Alexis
Our in-house creative writing pro who gives off bff energy and somehow embodies equal parts mystic, poet and comedian.
“Hi, I’m Alexis! I am a self-professed blazer connoisseur, Sagittarius, reformed horse girl, writer, and recalcitrant romantic. If you lose me at a party, you can find me wherever the music is the most irresistibly danceable.
Speaking of dance, I found my creative and spiritual groove through the practice of ecstatic dance and other forms of improvisational movement. For me, embodiment and the deep pleasure that comes with it are my way of connecting with the divine.
I believe that affirming and celebrating pleasure, in the face of all the ‘logical’ reasons to turn to cynicism, is a radical act, and I am passionate about using words to do so. There’s nothing like the magic of a perfectly apt phrase to really make a moment, story, or experience come to life. My M.O. is a cross between your most say-yes-to-anything girlfriend and that one guy at the bar who writes his most brilliant poems on the back of cocktail napkins. Above all, I believe that what makes a great ceremony is that it has your fingerprints all over it -- and maybe a sprinkle of rosewater, too. I’m so excited to work with you on capturing your you-ness on your big day!”

Meet Jacob
Our resident ball of sunshine. With a permanent twinkle in his eye, fuzzy beard and warm presence, it’s hard not to be all smiles when Jacob is around.
“Hey! I’m Jacob. I am a Gemini, a serial cat fosterer and a down-to-earth human. I am someone who will lend you an ear in times of need or just keep you on your toes with one of my many stories.
Most of all, I love meeting new people and hearing their life stories. I’m a bit of an adventure seeker, so I enjoy going on hikes, trying new restaurants, or just traveling any chance I get. If I’m not out looking for my next adventure, I’m usually just cuddled up on the couch with my wife and pets, probably watching reality TV. (I will stand by my belief that Survivor will always be the pinnacle of reality TV).
I became a reverend, because I want to give my couples an experience that they will remember for a lifetime. I want to create an authentic celebration of you and your partner’s life together and tell the story that is your love. Think of me not only as a reverend, but as your friend. If you ever want to talk about the ceremony, wedding stuff, or just shoot the breeze, I will always be a text or a phone call away! I’m so excited to meet you!”
